Ajos wind farm was originally constructed as a 30 MW wind farm in the very northern part of the Gulf of Bothnia in Finnish Lapland. In 2015 it was decided that the existing WinWind turbines would be dismantled and replaced by larger and more modern Siemens DD turbines, and that the wind farm would also be expanded on land. The challenges in the project included amongst other careful logistic planning and execution of the sea operations for the decommissioning of the existing turbines, including replacement of the offshore internal grid and installation of the new turbines around the waters at Kemi harbor, one of Finland’s busiest ports for large freight vessels. During the short ice-free summer period both onshore and offshore activities was executed.
Cameos provided a full scope solution for implementation and execution of the construction project and delivery to end customer. Apart from a complete site team which monitored and supervised the daily progress of the works, Cameus provided expert resources for procurement, planning, offshore logistics, foundation design review, electrical design review, permit administration, quality- and environmental issues, etc. Cameus also carried out factory visits in order to monitor production status and ensure quality at the turbine supplier’s production facilities in Denmark, Finland and China. Cameus provided general facilities for the project such as a fully equipped Site office, high-speed boat sea transports and the staff’s personal safety equipment.
